I unfortunately bought into the hype of some of the shill reviewers online. I was hoping the Slypod Pro would be an improvement over the original, which reportedly had some stability issues. That is not the case. The app crashes constantly. The Slypod comes with NO INSTRUCTIONS. This is particularly frustrating when the app itself is confusing and unintuitive. The Slypod is well-constructed; it seems strong. It has three buttons: power, up and down.
The up and down buttons apparently only activate either full extension or retraction–you cannot control incremental adjustments with these buttons, despite me trying repeatedly. The app had no evident setting to change this.
I purchased the Aircross 3 so that I could combine the two in the Master Control App, and do my own motion control video recording. I’ve a written review of the Aircross 3 separately, but the gist here is that it is impossible to balance. I have the Ronin RS3 Pro, which is a breeze to balance. I spent an hour trying to balance first my Zcam F6 then my Sony A1, and the Aircross simply would not achieve proper balance. I also could not link it to the Slypod in the app. Going back and forth repeatedly to make one alteration then the next, and then trying to figure out what the timing is supposed to be for both.
Frankly, the idea of the Slypod is great, but the execution is sub-par. I’m sure it’ll work fine for those who are using small mirrorless cameras like the Sony A6000 series, but it is simply unreliable and unstable with heavier rigs. The total lack of instructions and guidance from Moza is also a huge problem as this is a unique product.
I’m giving the Slypod 2 stars for build. Otherwise, it is simply not useable as a practical matter.
